Why Denebola?

Denebola is the award-winning, official newspaper of Newton South High School in Newton, Massachusetts. Produced entirely by students, our newspaper serves as an important source of information and a forum for discussion. We publish nine months of the school year, with a 68-page Graduation Issue, and mail the paper home to the 1,750 students at Newton South.  We also distribute the newspaper throughout the school.

Denebola's website publishes each issue and hosts special online projects--such as the Commonwealth-wide eight-school Patrick/Murray Inauguration collaboration (Red Eye Gazette) featured in The Boston Globe. Denebola is also the 2008 winner of the Suffolk University Massachusetts Press Association's "Award for General Excellence" and "Excellence in News Writing," as well as the first place winner in the 2008 NESPA Journalism contest. In December 2007, Denebola's investigative team uncovered hidden security cameras at Newton South and was featured in the local media, as a result.
