Over the years, I have taken on more and more responsibilities to fill my schduele. Sometimes, I feel like I just want to drop all of my activities and relax, yet my strong passion to work hard keeps me going everyday.
I have grown up with an appreciation and knack for the performing arts. I take and teach dance classes, and am a member of the Newton South Step Squad. While many activities that I involve myself in relate to performing, I don’t limit myself in any way. For instance, I try to surround myself in my culture by being an active member of the Black Student Union.
I have a steadfast commitment to every club and activity that I participate in; I try to never miss meetings or practices. This schedule can be overwhelming at times, because it results in an extremely full day. Since I am a METCO student, I usually wake up between 4:30 and 5:30 am, in order to get to school. My day doesn’t usually end until 1:30 am when I finish my homework and go to sleep.
With all these activities, it’s hard to find time to get homework done or just relax and hang out, like the usual high school student. I mean, I can’t play around with time like Hermione Granger.
In reality, I simply can’t be in two places at once. This concept, at times, can be difficult to grapple with because I often have to choose my priorities when two activities overlap. For example, all day dance competitions (which compete at least once a month) might interfere with other activities that meet on Saturdays. At first, it was hard for me to prioritize and manage time my time. After my freshman year, though, I began to use a daily planner, allowing me to keep track of my many clubs, organizations, and classes.
I stay involved because of my dedication and passion’€not because of my college resume. It is nice to know, however, that all of my hard work and perseverance will help make a bright impact on my future.]]>
