Despite the cold, rainy weather,Â both the Girls’ and Boys’ Track and Field teams came home winners of the Dual County League championship on Wednesday, May 19.
The girls won it after 17 events with 107 points, beating rival Lincoln-Sudbury by 8. The boys had a closer meet, with a victory in the final event giving the squad a quarter-point advantage over Acton-Boxsborough.
Seniors Kathy O’Keefe and Melanie Fineman went placed first and second respectively in the girls’ mile run. Senior Ezra Banks earned first in the girls’ triple jump, and classmate Kayla Jackson took second in the girls’ javelin throw. Freshman Kayla Burton also placed second in girls’ 800 meter run. The girls’ 4×100 meter relay team of Banks, senior Christie Lee, freshman Kyra Visnick, and senior Katherine Sandson taking first.
David Melly won first place in the boys’ two mile run. Seniors Ross McDonald and Julius Parker taking the top two places respectively in the boys’ long jump. Senior Isaac Freedman snagged second in the boys’ discus throw. The boys’ 4×800 meter relay team of seniors Xhulio Uruchi, Yugi Wakimoto, David Melly, And Kyle Olson took first, and the boys’ 4×400 meter relay team of seniors Andrew O’Hagan and Stephen Murphy, combined with freshman Deion Arneaud and sophomore Cary Potochnick won its event.
