South reflects on President Obama’s first 30 days in office

The Ligerbots, North and South's robotics team, placed ninth out of 53 teams at the FIRST FRC Boston Regional robotics competition that took place from March 5 to 7 at Boston University's Agganis Arena. The team scored highest out of all the rookie teams, winning the Rookie Seed and Rookie Allstar awards.

You know you love ’90s show, xoxo, Gossip Girl

Spotted: blonde bombshell Topanga Lawrence having a heart-to-heart with principal of school, Mr. Feeny. Could this relationship be blossoming like the flowers in Mr. Feeny's garden? During the '˜90s, plot lines like those of Gossip Girl would have been risqué in shows like Boy Meets World and The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, but since then, television shows have progressed from wholesome discussions of taboo topics to over-sexualized and raunchy depictions.

NTA fights layoffs

In light of the proposed budget cuts, more than 500 teachers attended the Newton Teacher's Association (NTA) meeting on March 18 at Mason-Rice Elementary School in Newton. The looming threat of multiple layoffs spurred the largest attendance recorded in over a decade. Teachers and administrators met at this private meeting, and discussed their concerns about the budget plan as well as potential solutions.

STAND up at benefit concert

With a line up of incredibly talented bands and a lively, upbeat crowd, the STAND Benefit Concert on Saturday, March 7 was a hit. The concert raised money for Darfur and was a successful event for Newton South.

Behind the curtains at South Stage auditions

A rowdy cluster of kids gathers around the callboard, completely blocking hallway traffic. This can only mean one thing: it's time for auditions at Newton South. This is an extremely trying time period for many Newton South students for whom theater is a real passion. Auditions for the spring plays, which include the student directing festival, Macbeth, and Stopkiss, were held on February 23 and 24.

They slouch to school no matter how sick of it they may be in order to learn enough to become important members of society. Scandal hits South

As of late February, several South parents became victims of a scam perpetrated by a group identifying itself as the School Booster Co. The group disguised itself as being related to the South Booster club and is currently under investigation by the Newton Police.
