Seif Says: Coming back

68,500 fans roar, shaking the steel and concrete stands of Gillette Stadium, as the Patriots, with less than one minute remaining and no time outs, drive down the field. After coming back from a 24 to six deficit against the New York Jets, quarterback Matt Cassel snaps the ball in the closing seconds of the game. He scans the field, rolls left and shakes a tackle and¦. touchdown! He delivers a perfectly-placed bullet-pass to the reliable number 81, Randy Moss, sending the Patriots into overtime.

What I carry to the movies

As I watch the first scene from the movie of my life, I anxiously wait for the most profound and inspirational things that I carry to appear on the screen. While I gaze at the movie, the question that continuously runs through my head is: “What in my life is so significant that I continue to carry it in my memory or in my pocket?

Grade Inflation

If the number of failed tests at Newton South were equivalent to the number of times this sentence is heard in hallways and classrooms throughout the school, then we would have an educational crisis on our hands. Hundreds of us would be at risk of not graduating, summer school classes would be over-enrolled with students trying to compensate for their unsuccessful school years, and Newton South High School would definitely not be the sixth most academically successful public school in Massachusetts.

North looks to South for recycling policies

The juniors–Jen Liu, Carissa Chan, and Maia Levoy– plan on raising awareness and improving the efficiency with which North outputs recyclables.

In a world that seems to be based on conflict, a new club at Newton South is trying to fight that fact. South teacher Karim Dao and a collective group of students founded Teryia, the new club meaning “friendship in the African dialect of Djoula. The club's goal is to link two different countries, through both their cultures and their schools.

They usually think, “I studied for this test so much, I really should get a good grade. The truth is, that is not always so. Students may work as hard as they possibly can, but the A taunting them in the distance is just not getting any closer.
