Natick’s Mall Makeover

By Julia Lytle and Claire PezzaThis October, the Natick Mall completed its transformation into the revamped, remodeled Natick Collection. Newly added restaurants, retail stores, and lounging areas make the Natick Collection the largest mall in New England.
While many welcome the renovations and improvements, others believe that the addition of high-end stores like Gucci and Louis Vuitton creates an overwhelming and exclusive atmosphere.
The renovations began with the creation of a new wing of the mall. New hardwood floors and high ceilings, complete with skylights set the new wing apart from the old. Luxurious lounges and cafes with access to wireless internet are dispersed throughout the area.
Though the mall has become a lot busier since the renovation, there is more room for people and the architecture and furniture make the mall a much more calming environment.
New restaurants and eateries, including The Cheesecake Factory, Au Bon Pain, and Finale Desserterie & Bakery, also add to the lavish experience at the Natick Collection. Tired and hungry shoppers have plenty of choices, whether they want to stop for a quick bite at the food court or have a sit down meal at one of the many restaurants.
With the addition of over 100 new retail stores, finding the perfect pair of jeans or gift has been made much easier for shoppers. “It’s overwhelming, but in a good way,” sophomore Jenn Mountain said.
However, the extension changed the mall from large to enormous, but some shoppers don’t feel that it was a change for the better. “There are so many stores and it is so big now,” sophomore Jamie Schor said. “It’s almost impossible to get to every store you want to go to in one trip.”
Walking from store to store in different parts of the mall can take up so much time, that you may want to plan out your day and make a list of the stores you want to go to before you arrive to make sure you don’t miss out on any of the newest stores.
Many more upscale stores have arrived with the improvement of the appearance and atmosphere of the mall. This is great if you are looking to splurge, but it has greatly altered the status of the mall.
“It’s much more expensive now a has developed a whole new look,” junior Sara Ketabi said. “I really like it though. It’s nicer than it was before.” With the holiday season coming up, the Natick Collection should prove an easily accessible resource for shoppers. The Collection’s wide variety of stores and comfortable surroundings mean that finding gifts for everyone on your lists under one roof has never been easier.
